This is cool!

Sony has announced the PCM-D1, a field recorder that features 96K-24 bit recording capability, 4GB internal flash memory, removable Memory Stick Pro high-speed storage and a built-in USB 2.0 port for Macintosh and Windows/PC operating systems.

Other features include: built-in condenser microphones in an X - Y configuration, Analog level meters and a battery life of about 4 hours.

That's the good news. The bad news; the recorder is expected to be available in December at a suggested list price of $2000.

Shite. I'd love to have something like that, but not for $2K.

Wish I could find a nice used DAT recorder for like $50 or something... :)

I think there's a lot of people who wouldn't mind getting a nice used DAT for $50.....including me!!!

At this point I'd settle for a gently-used MiniDisc recorder with a mic input if I could find one for under $100.

I bet you could get one on eBay or Craigslist for that.

I have an old Sharp Mini Disc that's really cool. It's easy to use and has manual level control. The only downer is getting audio from the Mini Disc onto computer; I don't have any digital method for getting the audio from one to the other,
